The 2014 Subaru Forester: Big On Safety, Small On Price

Move over, Honda and Toyota! There's a new CUV in town. Cincinnati car buyers looking for a small crossover vehicle with the best safety features will love the new 2014 Subaru Forester. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety recently announced that the 2014 Forester was the only CUV to receive a rating of Good, scoring higher than the Honda CR-V, Nissan Rogue and Mitsubishi Outlander.

The IIHS tested small overlap front crashes by crashing 25 percent of the front end of the driver's side into a five-foot wall at 40 miles per hour. This type of a crash often leads to serious injuries due to the collapse of occupant structure. A small overlap front crash can slide the driver's head away from the airbag, causing serious head injuries. Two-thirds of the compact SUVs failed due to poor structure or restraints. Of all of the CUVs tested, only the 2014 Subaru Forester received the highest rating of Good for structure and restraints. The SuBARU Forester also received a score of Good on the other four IIHS crash tests. The 2014 Subaru Forester also received a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS.

The 2014 Subaru Forester offers many standard safety features, including antilock brakes, front and rear airbags, and a stability control system. Side impact airbags protect the torso, and overhead airbags protect occupants' heads in a side impact or rollover crash. Knee airbags on the driver's side protect the lower half of the body. Seatbelt pretensioners automatically adjust to place the occupant in the safest position before a crash.

Subaru's industry-leading All-Wheel Drive and stability control systems make the Forester the safest choice in tough weather conditions. The available EyeSight Driver Assist System slows the vehicle if it senses an imminent accident. Eyesight can prevent fender benders by stopping the vehicle completely. This system also includes a lane departure warning system and pedestrian detection features.

Cincinnati, Ohio Parents will appreciate the added safety features designed with the smallest passengers in mind. The occupancy sensor will detect the presence of a car seat in the front passenger seat and automatically disable the airbag. The rear door openings are larger, and the rear seats have been redesigned to better accommodate child seats. The rear seat backs include tether anchors for easier installation of child seats.

The 2014 Subaru Forester is a small crossover that offers a lot of options that make it the safest CUV on the road, all for a starting price of $21,995.
